About the Opportunity
The South Australian Ombudsman is an independent officer that:
- Investigates complaints about South Australian government and local government agencies
- Conducts audits of these agencies
- Reviews freedom of information determinations of these agencies
- Receives information about the state and local government activities confidentially under the Public Interest Disclosure Act.
The Assessment Officer is the first point of contact for complainants. The primary purpose of the Assessment Officer is to assess whether a complaint is within jurisdiction and warrants investigation by the Ombudsman. The role is responsible for conducting preliminary investigations of matters, seeking resolution of matters by agreement between the parties and referring matters to an Investigating Officer for further investigation, as required.
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven effective written and oral communication skills
- The ability to read and understand legislation
- Proven experience dealing with complaints
- Knowledge of the roles of state government departments, local government councils and statutory authorities
- Proven ability to manage a high volume caseload and determine priorities
- The ability to work with office computer and case management systems, including keyboard skills adequate to prepare documents in Microsoft
- Knowledge of government
- Legal qualifications or experience

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be will provided further information if an interview is requested.
