About the Opportunity

Forensic Science SA (FSSA) provides a comprehensive, coordinated range of services to agencies associated with the justice system including the State Coroner, South Australia Police (SAPOL), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and defence and civil litigants. FSSA is part of the Attorney General’s Department and the Director, FSSA reports to the Executive Director, Legal & Legislative Services. Within FSSA there are five main groups: Pathology, Chemistry & Materials, Biology, Toxicology and Administration. The first four groups are responsible for the scientific investigation of crime and each group has a diverse range of scientific analytical equipment and laboratory chemicals at their disposal.

The Medical Typist / Administration Support Officer works within a small team responsible to the Team Leader Pathology Administration supporting the Pathology function whilst contributing to wider forensic administration as required. The primary activities are the accurate and timely audio-medical typing of post-mortem and neuropathology reports, the data entry of pathology test results, receipting, tracking and return of deceased medical notes and various support functions.

The successful applicant:

  • Must have proven experience as a medical audio-typist.
  • Must have a demonstrated excellent knowledge of medical terminology.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be will provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

  • The incumbent must provide a saliva sample for DNA testing and placement on the DNA Quality Assurance Register (QAR) to exclude the possibility of contamination.
  • May be required to participate in Hepatitis B vaccination program.
