About the Opportunity

An exciting 12 month opportunity exists for a people manager, preferably with experience in a legislative or regulatory environment, to join Consumer and Business Services (CBS) and lead the Gambling and Associations team.

The Manager Gambling and Associations is responsible for:

  • Administering a range of complex and politically sensitive legislation within the gambling legislative framework
  • Licensing of major lottery and trade promotion lottery activities
  • Managing gambling barring services and providing strategic direction and oversight of projects aimed at minimising gambling harm
  • Liaising with industry stakeholders and interstate and Commonwealth regulators
  • Registration and monitoring governance requirements of incorporated associations, charities and cooperatives
  • Oversight of technical approvals and prudent advice for games and gaming machines.

The Manager Gambling and Associations also plans, develops, and implements customer service strategies and programs in accordance with CBS’ goals and priorities and leads and manages the performance of a diverse team of staff. 

Role highlights:

  • Provide expert written and verbal advice on registering and licensing risks, issues and operational matters being undertaken within the business unit and ensure compliance with government and agency policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Key contact for stakeholder relationships
  • Oversee and ensure the prudent technical assessment and management of approvals in accordance with relevant legislation and CBS policies
  • Working closely with the CBS Compliance & Enforcement Team where licencing breaches are identified
  • Managing the process of voluntary and involuntary barring in accordance with relevant legislation
  • Plan, develop and oversee the implementation of effective processes to appropriately register associations and charities and ensure their compliance with relevant legislation

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience in leading and inspiring a diverse team of customer service officers, assessors and technical experts
  • The ability to improve customer outcomes and develop policies and procedures to assist staff in maintaining high levels of customer service
  • Practical experience in interpreting and applying legislation administered by the Commissioner and other relevant legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality advice to a broad range of stakeholders relating to complex technical and/or legislative matters
  • Excellent communication skills to develop and maintain working relationships with key industry representatives and interjurisdictional groups

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be will provided further information if an interview is requested.
