About the Opportunity
The Office of the Public Advocate is an independent statutory Office of the South Australian Government. This office exist to promote the rights and interests of people who may need assistance with decision making. Public Advocate promotes rights through delivering our services. Services includes giving advice, finding alternatives to guardianship, advocacy, investigations, and acting as guardian of last resort. The Office is guided by the principles and requirements of the key legislation and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The primary purpose of the Advocate/Guardian is to act as a delegated guardian for protected people under the principles of the Guardian and Administration Act 1993 (the Act). The Advocate/Guardian is to ensure that all decisions are made in accordance with section 5 principles within the Act, which guide the way in which decisions are made for protected people

Essential Qualifications & Qualities
- A tertiary qualification in social work or related discipline.
- Experience in working within conflict situations involving vulnerable persons, their family members, health professionals and service providers.
- Demonstrated experience in working in complex and sensitive issues involving vulnerable adults.
- Experience in preparing written reports for a range of purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a human rights framework.

Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be will provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

- Some intra/interstate travel will be required.
- Participation in after hour on-call roster (during day and overnight and/or weekend).
