About the Opportunity
The primary purpose of the Senior Advice & Conciliation Officer is to provide information and advice to consumers and traders, landlords and tenants, rooming house proprietors and residents and residential park operators and residents.
The Senior Advice & Conciliation Officer is responsible for conciliating fair trading disputes, including those complex in nature and also assisting in compulsory conciliation conferences.
We are looking for a professional and confident individual who has excellent communication skills and experience in providing high level customer service by telephone, email and in person to a broad range of customers.
The Advice and Conciliation team, within the Attorney-General’s Department’s Consumer and Business Services (CBS) wants to hear from you if you have:
- Experience in and the ability to provide excellent customer service and complaints handling to the general public via telephone, email, in writing and face-to-face;
- Proven ability to conciliate disputes between two or more parties;
- Proven ability to effectively handle large workloads and competing demands and deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to analyse problems and situations and formulate practical courses of action;
- Experience in providing an effective mediation/conciliation role in a conflict situation.
- Proven ability to prepare written reports and correspondence on complex and sensitive matters;
- Ability to understand and correctly interpret legislation; and
- Understanding of dispute resolution techniques.
A tertiary qualification in law or experience in the identification and assessment of legal issues are highly desirable.

Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be will provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Some intra-state and interstate travel requiring overnight absences may be required.
- The incumbent will be required to work between 8.15 am and 5.15 pm when rostered on advisory service duties and at times may be required to work in other branches of CBS
