About the Opportunity

The Office of the Public Trustee was established in 1881 and is constituted under the provisions of the Public Trustee Act 1995.

The role of the Public Trustee is to provide eligible South Australians with access to Will making services, powers of attorney preparation and deceased estate and trust administration. Public Trustee also has a role in managing the financial affairs of those people in the community who lack the capacity to manage their own affairs as determined by the courts, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT) or through activation of powers of attorney.

The Public Trustee is a separate agency within the broader departmental organisation of the Attorney-General’s Department.

The Public Trustee is looking to establish a temporary pool of candidates who express an interesting in filling a temporary role when they arise within the Public Trustee Customer Services Branch as either a Personal Estates Officer or Estate Services Officer.

Estate Services Officers provide a personal administrative service to individual clients for either protected, award, power of attorney, deceased estates or trusts under the incumbent’s control. Estate Officers liaise with internal and external service providers and ensure that customer’s needs are satisfied within the provisions of relevant Acts, Regulations and office procedures.

Provide a personal administrative service to individual customers for complex deceased, trusts or protected and power of attorney estates under the incumbent’s control, including the provision of advice and liaising on real estate sales. Ensures acceptable rates of return on estate investments by regular investment strategy review and arranging for the sale and/or purchase of investments. Ensures that beneficiaries’ and customers’ needs are satisfied within the provisions of relevant Acts, Regulations and office procedures. Contributing to the Branch and Customer Services Division’s strategic business direction, reviews of policy and work practices. Assists with the mentoring and coaching of lower classified officers

Personal Estates Officer provide a personal administrative service to individual clients for protected, award and power of attorney estates under the incumbent’s control, including the provision of advice and liaison on real estate sales.  Ensure acceptable rates of return on estate investments by regular investment strategy review and arranging for the sale and/or purchase of investments.  Ensure that client’s needs are satisfied within the provisions of relevant Acts, Regulations and office procedures.

Provide a check of critical estate management processes for all Personal Estate files on an annual basis to ensure the accuracy, integrity and reliability of financial records including verification of financial statements plus fees and charges.

Ensure the timely completion of the administration of estates at death of the client or revocation of Public Trustee's appointment as administrator, manager or attorney. The Personal Estates Officer is accountable for the provision of High quality financial administration and estate management to customers who are subject to Administration Orders from the SACAT or in cases where the Public Trustee also acts as their Attorney or as Manager by order of the Courts;  Investment and legal services to customers with guidance and High caring, expert and technical advice, consultancy and advisory service to customers and the community. The Personal Estates Officer will contribute to the Customer Services Division’s strategic business direction through reviews of legislation, policy, plans and work practices.

Special Conditions for Employment
