About the Opportunity
The Office of the Hon Vickie Chapman MP comprises a committed team who perform a variety of functions including administration, government liaison and advisory services to the Deputy Premier, Attorney-General and Minister for Planning and Local Government. The Attorney-General is the state’s principal legal advisor to the government and responsible for the administration of justice.
The Parliamentary and Cabinet Officer is accountable for the provision of a high level parliamentary liaison, research and administration service, and for coordinating and administering highly sensitive Cabinet, Boards and Committees procedures that support the Minister in parliamentary and legislative processes. The Officer is also responsible for managing all Parliament and Cabinet related records within the Ministerial Office. The position provides a high level of support to the Office Manager for the efficient and effective operational management of the Minister’s Office, including coordinating and delivering member appointment requirements, managing information needs.
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the Minister is fully prepared whilst identifying issues and processing questions within a stipulated timeframe. The Officer will be responsible for overseeing the processes for the introduction and passage of legislation by ensuring all relevant information is available for the Minister when introducing and debating legislation or motions in Parliament and have briefings prepared as necessary in consultation with the Chief of Staff and Advisers. This also includes maintaining up-to-date copies of relevant Acts and information regarding the progress of legislation, liaising with Departmental staff and the Executive Council to manage the tabling process of annual and other such reports before Parliament and ensuring legislative requirements are met.
The Parliamentary and Cabinet Officer is responsible for the coordination of Cabinet processes by liaising and coordinating all Cabinet related matters between the Minister’s Office, Department and Cabinet Office. The incumbent will contribute to the effective and efficient flow of Cabinet related information and communication between the Ministers office and relevant agencies. The Officer will be responsible for all incoming and outgoing Cabinet Submissions, including the creation of Cabinet numbers, lodgement of submissions, updating and maintaining the Cabinet records system and formatting and editing of submissions where applicable.
The Officer will maintain systems relating to Board and Committees within the Minister’s Portfolios by ensuring administrative aspects relating to Boards and Committees are kept up to date, including the appointment process, reviewing the Government Gazette and tabling of annual reports within set timeframes.

Essential Qualities
- Knowledge of personnel management principles under the Public Sector Act, Work Health and Safety Act, and the Equal Opportunity Act.
- Knowledge of Attorney-General’s Department organisational structure and portfolio.
