About the Practical Legal Training Program

The Crown Solicitor's Office (CSO) offers placements to students wishing to complete the Practical Legal Training (PLT) component of their professional qualifications. Placements are offered to approximately six students three times per year, for a period of six weeks (225 hours) in accordance with the guidelines set by the Law Society.

Potential applicants are advised that the dates available for 2021 are as follows:

  • 22 February 2021 – 2 April 2021 - Applications Closing 17:00pm Sunday 10th January 2021
  • 10 May 2021 – 18 June 2021 - Applications Closing 17:00pm Sunday 28th March 2021
  • 16 August 2021 – 24 September 2021 - Applications Closing 17:00pm Sunday 4th July 2021

Application

Please note that we take rolling applications. Once the PLT allocation has been met we will no longer be able to accept any more applications, therefore we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Please provide your University Academic Summary – Law Results Only by saving your results into a Word Document or PDF and attaching this after you have answered all the questions below.

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be will provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD. If invited to attend an interview, you will also be required to complete a pre-placement declaration.

Please note, that a placement agreement form will need to be submitted if you are successfully chosen to participate in the CSO PLT program. Please liaise with your University to obtain this form should you be invited for an informal interview.
